Bach: Cello Suite No.1
The extreme resonance of the acoustic of Blackburn Cathedral (where this was recorded at a New Year's Eve concert in 2018) has a massive effect on this recording. I think it suits the piece really nicely.
Teresa Carreño: Le Sommeil de L'Enfant
Mary Bowden: In Springtime
I recorded these two short piano pieces for 'Flip the Stem', an initiative aiming to create reference scores and recordings of works by composers from sectors of society that are underrepresented in concert programmes, such as women and ethnic minorities. Teresa Carreño's piece, which translates as 'the child's sleep', has a gentle, rocking character (with a slightly more turbulent middle section), whilst the Mary Bowden presents a beautiful early twentieth-century idyll. They were recorded in December 2020.
Tallis: Spem in Alium for 40 cellists
During my time at the Royal Northern College of Music I arranged and conducted Tallis's infamous 40-part motet for an orchestra of cellists. This recording was made in the concert hall, and a few days later it was performed to the public on the college's concourse. The recording is from January 2017 and as such I would approach it a little differently if I were to repeat it. That said, I think the result is a very unique experience.
